EHS Manager

Overview of Position:

The EHS Manager is responsible for implementation and maintenance of the Health and Safety programs within the Phoenix Services Safety Management System. Responsible for new hire site-specific safety orientation, coordination of on-site safety meetings, conducting safety training, supporting incident investigation efforts, conducting and documenting on-site safety audits. Promoting proactive and preventive safety activities by observing, analyzing, encouraging safe work behaviors and correcting unsafe conditions. Ensuring OSHA regulations, safety policies and procedures are being followed. Establishing safety goals, reinforcing safety policies and procedures, monitoring safety metrics, supporting and coaching supervisors and employees. Providing feedback to encourage learning, monitoring safety compliance and creating awareness and setting priorities that focus on continuous improvement.

Reports To: Regional EHS Manager

Primary Responsibilities:

1. Conducts site-specific training for all new employees, conducts safety meetings and attends safety meetings to improve safety knowledge and network with other safety professionals

2. Investigate all incidents, accidents, and near-miss to determine the root cause and corrective actions are implemented

3. Ensures that all occupational illnesses and injuries are recorded according to OSHA standards

4. Ensures that all safety programs (lockout/tag out, hazard communication, hearing

conservation, personal protective equipment, etc.) are fully implemented and in compliance

5. Conducts audits for safety to ensure compliance during plant construction and operations

6. Develop and delivers all levels of safety training and orientation for all employees

7. Prepares, presents, and documents daily safety toolbox talk for site workers

8. Observes, identifies, and records safety observations, both negative and positive in nature, on a daily basis

9. Develops and implements specific hazard analyses and controls such as confined space entry;

provides support for planned confined space entries; critical lifts, energy control/lockout, fall

protection and Hazmat protocol

10. Maintains all required certifications required by DOT and OSHA and company safety programs

11. Observe relevant safety, accident prevention, and environmental regulations

12. Works with management on safety matters and problem corrections

13. Performs any other tasks assigned to support and improve the overall site safety operations

14. Review and sign acknowledgments for all Phoenix Corporate Health and Safety Policies within 30 days of hire.

Work Environment:

This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets, and fax machines. This role also leads and directs the workforce in a heavy industrial setting requiring a sense of high-level safety reverence using the required PPE for the environment.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee is frequently required to stand, walk, sit, use hands to finger, handle or feel, and reach with hands and arms. This job requires the employee to lift at least 25 pounds infrequently.

Required Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Safety, Business Administration, or a combination of three to five years of safety experience and education
  • Progressive safety and health experience in an industrial environment to include general industry auditing experience

Preferred Education and Experience:

  • Master’s Degree in Safety-related field
  • OSHA 500, 501, and 30 Certified, or ability to start certification within the first six months of employment
